Gee's Bend Quilts

We have been reading Belle, the Last Mule at Gee's Bend

We learned in the story that many of the people from Gee's Bend make amazing quilts.

Today we decided to start making our own quilts.

The class created individual quilt blocks, which we will combine to make a large group quilt.

The quilting history of the African American women of Gee's Bend, Alabama dates back to the slave era.  We used samples of their beautiful quilts for inspiration.

Tomorrow we'll put them together!
