In Social Studies we have been learning about Early Portland. Some great questions to ask your third grader:
- How did Portland get it's name?
- What is a clearing?
- What was the local Indian tribe that helped the first settlers? (Hint: County we live in)
- What did the Settlers, Explorers and Native Americans use as highways (because there weren't any roads yet)?
- What was Portland's nickname? (Hint: Really great local coffee company)
- What did settlers paint white?
- What is an immigrant?
GENIUS QUESTION: What main Portland road used to be known as "The Plank Road"?
