It's been a very rainy Halloween so far.  If you aren't feeling up for going out with the kids tonight in the rain- check out University of Portland's HALLoween.  The Dorms will be open for you to walk through with your kids and trick or treat.  Safe and Dry.

Soccer for Success Is A Real Kick!

This afternoon our James John SUN School Soccer for Succes Team played Cesar Chavez.  They've been practicing hard at every lunch recess and during their after-school SUN class.

Welcome Brenda & Aaliyah!

Two great new students have joined our community.
Brenda comes to us from just up the road at Astor Elementary.  Aaliyah was brave enough to agree to join us from Mr. P's classroom in an effort to even out our classroom numbers.  Although a few of our boys are concerned that now we have more girls than boys in our room- we are very glad they are in our room.

Books 2 U This Morning

Joaquin from Books 2 U stopped my today. We are so lucky to have such a great county library!  Thanks for "circulating" into our room today!

We learned about all of the great Books, CDs, DVDs that are available for check out.

A Great Night Of Bowling

Last night our Award Winning PTA put on a fantastic Bowling Night Fundraiser for our school at Interstate Lanes.

Parent Visits? Anytime!

Auston's mom, Melissa, is a regular here in our classroom.

What's the process for visiting your 3rd Grader here in Room 12?  It's simple.  Just stop in.   We love having parents stop by to see what we're up to.  No need to call ahead.  Just check in at the office and come on up.  Your 3rd Grader will never forget it!

So, what's the objective here?

We realize that our school days are very short here in 3rd Grade.  There's really no time to waste.  That's why, for all of our core subjects (Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science) we post our objectives before the lesson even starts.  We want to be very clear about what we will be learning as we work.  Do we have an objective for your 3rd Grader being here today?  You bet!

Pride of the Pride

Every day students at James John receive little slips of paper called Pride of the Prides when they are caught being Safe, Responsible or Respectful.  The top white copy goes home (maybe you've seen them).  The yellow copy goes into an old cracked ceramic bear cookie jar in our room.   On Fridays I pull out five and those kids go down stairs to the office to put them into a school-wide drawing.  About once a month Principal Shelby draws five or six lucky Pride Slips and those kids get to go to Burgerville with her.

Walk to School Day Today

We had a great morning walking to school!

Walk to School Day is Tomorrow Morning.

Mr. Sammons loves walking to school.  We will meet in front of the St. Johns Community Center tomorrow at 7:45.

University of Portland student, Ms. Hodgman, really helped us get our room organized this past month.  She worked tirelessly cleaning, sorting and labeling our closets and shelves.

Girls Running Club Starts This Week!

Abi & Ida wanted to be sure to remind everyone that the James John Girl's Running Club starts this Tuesday from 2:45-4:15.  This New SUN school class will be training for a 5k run in November!  Girls, if you missed the sign up - talk to George or Kolai in the Sun Office.  There are 4 spots left.

Each week our table teams compete for points. The winning table gets to come up on Friday and eat lunch with Mr. Crockett and Mr. Leach.  This week the Hawks won. Congratulations Hawks!

Homework Journals Due Tomorrow

Just a reminder that if your 3rd Grader hasn't handed in this week's homework journal (and most of them have) they are due tomorrow.  We also need all permission slips in by tomorrow for our Sauvie Island Field Trip on Friday.
