Mr. Leach is absent today.
I am very sorry to be gone on one of the "funnest" school days of the year.
I am out today due to a family illness. Ms. Ikada (retired JJ teacher) will be filling in for me today. She is fantastic. Your 3rd grader is in for a great final day before winter break.
Have a great Winter Break! I triple dog dare you!

Holiday Homework Packet
We are wrapping up another great week here at school. I wasn't going to make a homework packet for the long winter break- but all week your kids pleaded and begged me for one.
So, they are coming home with a large packet that should keep them busy for awhile. They don't have to do all of it. Your 3rd grader needs to pick three of the math pages that are just right for them. There is also a word search, crossword and several lined pages for them to write about what they did over break and a reading game.
Hopefully the homework packet will come in handy for any long car rides to relatives that you may have planned.
Tell your kids not worry, it's not due til next year!

Trashcan Joe at James John
Trashcan Joe came and tore it up at yesterday for a Young Audiences Assembly.
The quartette gets their name from a banjo fashioned out of parts of a trashcan. Cap'n James Cook calls his invention a "trashcanjo". Thumping "garbage can" bass, melodic accordion, blazing "cornet" and great harmonies had all the kids rocking out to their folk/jazz/blues swing.

Silverware Drive
Got some old forks & spoons laying around the house? James John School is having a silverware drive to use in the cafeteria.
Currently we are using plastic sporks that are expensive and wasteful. Also, who wants to eat with a plastic spork?
We need to collect around 500 forks & spoons.
So ask your friends, neighbors and relatives. And help us get off plastic.

National Geographic Preholiday Warehouse Sale - December 3-5, 2010
National Geographic is bringing truckloads of books, maps, globes, toys, clothing, luggage and more to its warehouse sale in Portland, Ore., in December. The event will be held at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Portland, from Friday, Dec. 3, to Sunday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
Fourteen tractor trailers will be loaded with almost everything that National Geographic has offered for sale in the past five years. Many of the items seen in National Geographic gift catalogs as well as 300 book titles will be available. Prices will be discounted up to 90 percent.
“This year’s sale is one of the largest ever. We have more than 600 different products — that’s 200,000 of the best-quality books, maps, DVDs, toys, travel accessories and gifts from around the world,” said Bill O’Donnell, National Geographic’s director of sales, publishing.
New to the Portland sale this year will be a display of rolled and framed prints of some of National Geographic’s most iconic photographs.
