Artwork Up At Starbucks

April is poetry month.  Stop by your local St. Johns Starbucks and check out  our I Am From Poems over Spring Break this next week.
We are not sure how long they will be up.  Kelly from Starbucks was nice enough to let us get them snuck in between art shows.  They will probably only be up for a week or two so make sure you get in and check them out.

Celebrity Guest Read Alouder Today: PAT President Gwen Sullivan

Portland Association of Teachers President, Gwen Sullivan was nice enough to stop by our room today and read to us.  A former third grade teacher herself, she told us (and we could tell) how much she misses working with kids.

Thank you Ms. Sullivan for visiting our class today!

Gwen's amazing "teacher read-aloud" voice . .
. . kept us on the edge of our seats!

Congratulations to Our Students of the Month!

Maia, Demetrio and Kai are our Students of the Month!

My Culture

Eva is from the Agwala Sioux Tribe.
by Eva Tapio

A small pot of beef stew.
"Dance!" cries my close people and they get their wish.
I slip on my moccasins.
Native Dancing is a dream.
The loud shouts make me feel at home.
Just a native song makes me feel where I belong, so close to God.
I pray it will never go away.
In a true Pow Wow.
But when I dance and my feet go off the floor I never want to leave.  My hair smacks me in the face and reminds me that I can't stay forever.
So I enjoy as much dancing as I can.  I can't believe one night at the Pow Wow sets me for life.
But I can never get enough of my Culture!

Step Up To The Mic 2

Here are the brave kids that read their imaginative stories this afternoon.

Step Up To The Mic

This morning a few of us shared our new imaginative writings.  We practiced our public speaking by "plugging in".  Your 3rd Grader's stories were great.  Here are few pictures from the kids who were brave enough to share.

Happy St. Patricks Day

Maia loves St. Patty's Day.  She showed up yesterday with lots of festive St. Patty's Accoutrements.  I borrowed some of her leprechaun hair.
Speaking of Leprechauns . . . .  it turns out our own Mr. Morantte is half Irish, from the Flood lineage to be specific.  He changed out of his teaching garb at the end of the day yesterday into his festive Irish ensemble, (lederhosen and all) and danced a traditional Irish Jig
Makes you want to go eat a large bowl of Lucky Charms.

Do Jump Assembly Today!

Do Jump stopped by our school today. I wasn't able to post any pictures, but take our word for it- they were awesome.
The acting and music was amazing!  It was like a cross between being at Live Wire and Circque du Soleil
